Eco range curtains and blinds
If you’re looking for eco-conscious, non-toxic curtains and blinds, check out our eco range. Amazingly, these environmentally friendly fabrics are made from recycled bottles. The fabrics range from 100% recycled polyester to a blend of new and recycled materials, using up to an incredible 30 plastic bottles a square metre!
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Repurpose. The 4Rs are key to a more sustainable world.
Over 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year and almost half of it is thrown away after a single use. Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into the world’s oceans. Studies suggest up to 60-90% of all marine debris are plastics!
Choosing products made from recycled materials - like our range of eco fabrics - contributes to a circular economy. This means, instead of finding and creating new materials, we reuse existing stuff. This not only reduces waste, but also conserves resources and saves on energy as it takes less to process than to create something new.
So how do plastic bottles become sustainable curtains?
It starts at a recycling plant where plastic bottles saved from landfill are cleaned, sorted and shredded. After they’ve been melted down, the plastic cools to form flakes. These are then re-melted to form a flowing yarn that is woven into fabrics. These fabrics then come to us at Bargain Blinds and Curtains where we turn them into quality curtains and roman blinds.
- Used plastic bottles ready to be recycled.
- Plastic is chopped, melted and formed into flakes.
- Flakes are melted and spun into yarn.
- 100% recycled yarn is woven into fabric.
Recycled fabrics feel and function just like regular fabric.
Plastic bottles are hard and crunchy, but the fabrics they can be turned into are soft and flowy. Our eco range of sustainable fabrics don’t feel like you might think; they are soft, durable and colourfast, and available in a range of popular colours. And they hang just great! Certifications and standards
There are plenty of products out there claiming to be less harmful to the environment and people’s wellbeing, so how do you know which ones are the real - more sustainable, less toxic - deal? We’re pleased to say, our eco range have passed rigorous testing standards to earn the following certifications:
- The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a voluntary product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product. The standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, chemical content and labelling.OEKO-TEX® standards enable you to make responsible decisions and protect natural resources. Driven by sustainability and a dedication to transparency, OEKO-TEX®’s work is grounded in proven science. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 means these textiles have been tested for over 1000 harmful substances and certified as having passed safety tests..
- Additionally, if you’re looking for roller blinds that contribute to healthy environments and don’t have hidden impacts on health, the material we use to make our range has UL GREENGUARD Certification.
